The Opportunity / About Us

We are an agile, innovative game studio building a proprietary ecosystem of games and platform tools. Operating within a larger global organization, we already manage a suite of game titles that are processing tens of millions in real-money transactions. Headquartered in Hong Kong with a multi-cultural remote team, we tackle high-scale complexity by deploying isolated, cloud environments for each of our global partners. We are at the intersection of social gaming, next-generation Provably Fair gaming, and operational excellence.

Every near-miss, every bonus trigger, every satisfying win is the product of precise mathematical design. This role is the architect of those moments. We are building a new generation of Provably Fair games and we need a mathematician and game designer in one to define the statistical soul of our titles.

Role Overview

We are looking for a Game Math Designer to own the statistical design of our game portfolio. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will design the probability models, mechanic frameworks, and economy systems that define how our games feel, perform, and behave at scale. From initial math spec through simulation validation, live balancing, and post-launch tuning, you will own the full mathematical lifecycle of every game we ship. This is a senior, high-trust individual contributor role with direct influence on the studio's creative and commercial output.

Key Responsibilities

Mathematical Game Design

  • Game Math Specification: Design the mathematical models that govern game mechanics for each title from first principles, including probability distributions, return-to-player (RTP) targets, volatility profiles, hit frequencies, and payout structures.
  • Bonus & Feature Math: Design the mathematical frameworks for bonus games, free spin mechanics, multipliers, cascading systems, jackpot structures, and other feature-layer mechanics. Specify each with precision suitable for engineering implementation.
  • Provably Fair Design: Embed Provably Fair cryptographic mechanics into game math from the ground up, ensuring every outcome is verifiable, auditable, and tamper-evident by design.
  • Economy & Reward Systems: Design player reward structures and economy systems that balance engagement, session length, and long-run statistical performance targets.

Simulation & Validation

  • Statistical Simulation: Build and run large-scale simulations (Monte Carlo and beyond) to validate game math models, stress-test edge cases, and verify long-run statistical properties before titles go live.
  • Math Documentation: Produce rigorous, well-structured math specification documents for each title, covering all mechanic definitions, probability tables, state machines, and simulation results. Documentation must support internal engineering, compliance review, and potential third-party auditing.
  • Pre-launch Sign-off: Own the mathematical sign-off gate before any title enters production. Nothing ships until the numbers are right.

Live Balancing & Iteration

  • Live Game Tuning: Collaborate with the BI/Data Science team to analyze live game performance against design targets. Drive post-launch math tuning cycles based on real player data.
  • Postmortem Analysis: Participate in event and launch postmortems. Identify mathematical root causes for unexpected player behavior or performance deviations and propose corrective actions.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Engineering Partnership: Translate mathematical specifications into clear, unambiguous implementation documentation. Be the go-to resource for engineering questions about game logic and statistical behavior.
  • Product & Design Alignment: Work closely with Product and Game Design to ensure math design serves the intended player experience. The goal is for mechanics to feel as good as they perform on paper.
  • Research & Innovation: Stay current with advances in game math design, player psychology research, and Provably Fair technology. Bring fresh mathematical ideas to the game design pipeline.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Mathematical Mastery: Deep, demonstrable command of probability theory, statistics, combinatorics, and stochastic processes. This is a prerequisite, not a preference.
  • Game Math Portfolio: Demonstrated experience designing and validating game math models for commercial titles or verifiable independent projects.
  • Simulation Proficiency: Strong proficiency in Python or R for building simulations, statistical analysis, and mathematical validation tooling.
  • Documentation Excellence: Ability to produce clear, precise, and complete mathematical specification documents that others can implement without ambiguity.
  • Player Psychology: Understanding of behavioral economics and player psychology as applied to engagement design, reward loops, and risk perception.
  • Analytical Rigor: Comfortable challenging assumptions, running sensitivity analyses, and defending design decisions with evidence.
  • Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or a closely related quantitative field preferred but not required. We look for depth of expertise and demonstrable output.

Bonus Points

  • Experience designing games of chance, including slots, instant-win, table games, or lottery products.
  • Knowledge of RNG certification standards and third-party auditing processes.
  • Familiarity with Provably Fair cryptographic mechanisms (hash chains, commit-reveal schemes, etc.).
  • Experience working within a formal game production pipeline alongside engineers and game designers.
  • Background in player-facing economy design (progression systems, gacha, social gaming economies).

Our Tech Stack

  • Languages: Python, R, SQL
  • Simulation: Custom Monte Carlo simulation frameworks
  • Databases: PostgreSQL, Snowflake, ClickHouse
  • Visualization: Grafana, Tableau, Rill, Posthog
  • Cloud: AWS

You Are…

  • Action-Oriented: Delivers results through effective cross-functional collaboration. Get stuff done.
  • Takes Ownership: Ability to work independently and take ownership of complex systems with minimal oversight while engaging the team proactively.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Proactive in cross-team communications. Communicates clearly. Communicates changes and impacts proactively. Document changes and technical impacts.
  • Decisive: Exercising high judgment on when to model more deeply vs. when to validate empirically and ship.

Why Join Us?

  • Craft: Your mathematical designs are the heartbeat of our games. Every outcome, every moment of tension, and every player thrill traces back to your work. Build games that are fair, fun, and provably so.
  • Growth: We are a high-growth startup backed by an industry giant with significant resources to power growth.
  • Culture: A creative, driven, and transparent environment where we value "getting stuff done" over red tape.
  • Stability: Competitive salary, and benefits.
